Oilers Comeback to Win on the Road

Philippi, West Virginia- The University of Findlay men's soccer team competed against Alderson Broaddus University in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday, October 19. The Oilers rallied to make a second half comeback to seal the victory on the road, 4-2. The win moves the Oilers to a record of 8-4-1 (5-4-1) and the Battlers now are 5-7-1 (4-5-1) for the season.

The Oilers found themselves behind the eight ball when they fell down in the game, 2-0 heading into the half. The Battlers received goals from Zvi Ferrari in the 22nd minute along with another goal by Yannick Koffi from an assist by Ala Ramadan. The Oilers needed a sense of urgency to make up the deficit they found themselves in with one half left to play.

The answer the Oilers needed to make up the comeback showed in the second half. Quickly, the Oilers were able to make the most of the 45 minutes left to start the comeback. In the 60th minute, junior Peyton Trask put the first ball to the back of the net for the Oilers to close the gap to 2-1 still in the Battlers' favor. Senior Josh Dickinson added to the comeback with a goal of his own to sqaure up the game, 2-2 in the 69th minute. The comeback was not over yet, and with twenty minutes left to play, the Oilers rode the momentum till the end.

In the 79th minute, junior Josh Hales put the Oilers up 3-2 and hold the lead for the first time since the start of the game. Hales put the nail in the coffin once more with his second goal of the game in the 86th minute making the score 4-2. The Oilers ultimately outshot the Battlers 21-15 in shots taken along with gaining the edge for shots on goal with 11-10. Dickinson led the Oilers with a game high nine shots taken, and Hales added five. Ben Bolinger added a pair of shots as well for the Oilers.

Goalkeeper Garrett Arbogast added eight saves to his resume to receive his first win of the season protecting the goal.

The Oilers play next against #6 in the nation, Lake Erie College at home on Friday, October 25. The scheduled game time is 1:00 p.m.
