Oilers In 7th At GLIAC Championship

The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the third day of the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship on Friday, February 11 in Jenison, Michigan. The women are currently in fifth place with 224 points while the men sit in seventh with eight points.

On the women's side, Ailsa Hershaw and Nikki Schnell-McCoy were a part of two school record-breaking performances on the evening as Hershaw took home a GLIAC Championship in the 400 IM with a "B" standard time of 4:29.08 and teamed with Emily Thomas, Schnell-McCoy and Tanya Tikhonova to place fourth in the 800-yard freestyle relay at 7:43.74.

Schnell-McCoy also broke an individual school record, taking third in the 100-yard backstroke at 56.26, which was a NCAA automatic qualifying mark.

Jillian Herbst added an eighth place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a "B" time of 58.42 while Tikhonova was tenth in the same event at 58.59, also a "B" cut.

Thomas also finished 11th in the finals of the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.92.

On the men's side, Tim Andersson-Lind was 14th in the 100-yard butterfly (52.32), John Bogart was 14th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.12) and David Conti took 15th in the 400 IM (4:22.65).

The Oilers will compete tomorrow on the final day of the event.
