Hershaw Leads Oilers At GLIAC Championship

The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the second day of competition at the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship in Jenison, Michigan on Thursday, February 10. The women are currently in fifth place with 129 points while the men have not recorded any points as of yet.

Ailsa Hershaw took third place in the 200 IM with a school record-breaking and NCAA "B" standard time of 2:08.36 to lead the way.

She also teamed with Nikki Schnell-McCoy, Jillian Herbst and Tanya Tikhonova to take fifth in the 400-yard medley relay at 3:55.79. Schnell-McCoy's leg of the relay was a "B" cut in the 100-yard backstroke (57.10).

The Oilers 200-yard freestyle relay team of Emily Thomas, Samantha Reynolds, Herbst and Tikhonova added a sixth place finish at 1:39.46.

Tikhonova added an eighth place finish in the 200 IM at 2:11.89 and her preliminary swim of 2:11.14 was a "B" cut while Thomas swam a preliminary trial in the 100-yard freestyle at 52.95, also a "B" standard.

Maddie Bell was 12th in the 1-meter dive (302.30) and Mallory Ament was 12th in the 500 free at 5:14.05.

On the men's side, Tim Andersson-Lind was 20th in the 500-yard free (4:54.78), David Conti was 21st in the 200 IM (2:02.43) and John Bogart (23.07) was 22nd in the 50-yard free.

The Oilers will continue the event again tomorrow.
