Lakers Defeat Oilers 170-41
The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams both fell to Grand Valley State University on Saturday, January 14 in Allendale, Michigan. The women's team lost 159-74 while the men were defeated by a score of 170-41.
The women's team was led by Ailsa Hershaw, who placed first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.69, and second in the 200 backstroke (2:13.83). Kate Fisher was able to snatch two second place finishes in both the 500 freestyle (5:22.10) and the 200 breaststroke (2:34.17).
Findlay's Annie Currin took second place in the 1000 freestyle with a school record breaking time of 10:39.99 while teammate Emily Thomas grabbed third in the 100 freestyle (55.80). Oiler Isidora Yanez generated third place finishes in the 200 backstroke (2:15.05) and 200 freestyle (2:00.39).
On the men's side, David Soutoul took second in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.97) and third in the 200 backstroke (2:02.65). Diego Santos edged out Soutoul in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:00.14.
Oiler David Vittori snagged second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:56.52 while teammate David Conti finished third in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.65).
The Oilers will be back in action again on January 20 at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
