Oilers In 7th At GLIAC Championship
The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the third day of competition at the 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship in Jenison, Michigan on Friday, February 10. Both women and men are currently in seventh place with 221 and 164 points, respectively.
David Soutoul took fourth place in the 400 IM with a school record-breaking and NCAA "B" standard time of 4:01.55 to lead the way. Soutoul swam the first leg of the 800 free relay in 1:43.26, which is a new school record for the 200 free and a Division II "B" cut.
The 800 free relay, consisting of Soutoul, Diego Santos, Tim Andersson-Lind, and David Conti, finished sixth with a time of 7:10.34. Santos took 11th in the 100 back (52.72) while Andersson-Lind placed 11th in the 100 fly (52.23).
On the women's side, Molly Cade set a new school record in the 100 fly with a "B" standard time of 56.65. Ailsa Hershaw was able to make the NCAA "B" cut in the 400 IM (4:35.78).
Cade and Hershaw teamed with Emily Thomas and Tanya Tikhonova in the 800 relay with a fifth place for a Division II "B" time of 7:44.62. Jill Herbst and Tikhonova placed 10th (58.92) and 12th (59.38), respectively, in the 100 fly.
Maddie Bell finished 6th in 1 meter diving event with 351 points and Oiler Kate Fisher took 12th in the 400 IM (4:41.12).
The Oilers will continue the event again tomorrow.
