Oilers Complete Day 1 At EMU
The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the first day of the Eastern Michigan University Invitational on Friday, November 30 in Ypsilanti, Michigan and were led by Kaley Holmstrom who broke a school record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:25.65 and finished seventh in the event.
Molly Cade placed eighth in the 200 fly at 2:08.18. Cade, along with Annie Currin, Tanya Tikhonova, and Emily Thomas snatched seventh in the 400 free relay (3:41.59). In the same event, Ailsa Hershaw, Holmstrom, Isidora Yanez, and Kate Fisher finished eighth at 3:47.60.
In the 100 free, Thomas took 10th (54.16), Jillian Herbst finished 12th (56.18), and Emily Green clocked in at 1:05.75 for 14th place.
Currin generated an 11th place finish (18:06.53) in the 1650 free as teammate Fisher took 14th in the same event with a time of 18:59.58.
Kari Lemanski finished 10th in the 200 breast at 2:50.69. In the 200 backstroke, Tikhonova and Yanez placed 13th (2:13.37) and 14th (2:14.56), respectively.
On the men's side, the Oilers 400 free relay team of Diego Santos, David Conti, Colton Sayers, and Garrett Gardner added a ninth place finish with a time of 3:24.86.
Santos took the 11th (1:57.33) spot in the 200 backstroke. In the 200 fly, Sayers and Tim Andersson-Lind placed 14th (2:00.71) and 16th(2:25.64), respectively.
In team competition, the women are in fourth with 114 points while the men are sitting in fifth with 29 points.
The Oilers diving team finished their first day of competition at Kenyon College for the Total Performance Invitational where Maddie Bell set a new school record in the 1-meter dive with her preliminary dive worth 428.25 points and met the NCAA National Qualifying Standard.
Ashleigh Weddington also achieved a National qualifying score of 406.12. Bell finished the day in second place with a score of 416.33 with Weddington on her tail with 410.03 points in the 1-meter dive. Tomorrow, the women's 3-meter dive will conclude the meet at Kenyon.
The Oilers will return to the pool tomorrow, December 1, to cap off the Eastern Michigan University Invitational in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
