Oilers Currently 8th at GLIAC Championship

The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the second day of the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship on Thursday, Feb. 7 in Canton, Ohio.  The women's squad is in eighth place with 99 points while the men's team is currently in eighth place with 71 points.

On the men's side, the Oilers 200 freestyle relay team of David Conti, Anthony Calvillo, Garrett Gardner and Jay Clinger took sixth with a time of 1:29.96.

Conti added a 16th place finish in the 200 IM at 1:57.46, Colton Sayers was 22nd in the 500 freestyle at 4:56.14, Gardner finished 25th in the 50 freestyle at 22.64 and Calvillo was 26th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.77.

The women's team received an eighth place finish out of their 200 freestyle relay team of Jillian Herbst, Molly Cade, Tanya Tikhonova and Annie Currin as they crossed the line in 1:39.67.

Kaley Holmstrom added a 12th place finish in the 200 IM at 2:08.93 and achieved a "B" cut time of 2:08.38 in the preliminary round of the event.

Ailsa Hershaw finished 13th in the 200 IM at 2:09.28 while Currin was 16th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:21.23.

The Oilers took 13th, 14th and 15th place in the 1-meter dive with Shanon Romano (339.30), Ashleigh Weddington (332.25) and Maddie Bell (330.55) occupied those spots.

Cade added a 20th place finish in the 50 freestyle after crossing the line in 25.02 while Herbst (25.17) and Emily Thomas (25.19) finished 24th and 25th, respectively, in the 50 freestyle as well.

The event will continue again tomorrow and conclude on Saturday.
