Track Concludes Oiler Opener

Oiler Opener Complete Results

The University of Findlay men and women's indoor track and field team completed the Oiler Opener on Saturday, Dec. 8 in Findlay, Ohio.

In men's field event action, Sophomore Colin Thomas placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 45-05.00.

Taylor Miller placed second in the shot put with an NCAA provisional qualifying heave of 56-10.00, while Marcus Vicars finished fourth with an NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 53-00.00. Darren Bass also placed seventh in the event with a toss of 51-01.50.

Freshman Derek Spindler had a strong showing in the pole vault, placing third and clearing a height of 14-07.25, while Jacob Miller finished 11th in the heptathlon with 3,989 overall points.

In men's track events, senior Tim Sanders led the way for the Oilers with a third place finish in the 60-meter hurdles event with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.31. He was also part of the 4x400-meter relay team of Michael Travis, Kyle Smithey and Joe Sherrieb that placed fourth with a time of 3:25.59.

Sanders also placed ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.97, while Travis and Sherrieb placed fifth and 10th with times of 50.91 and 51.67, respectively in the 400-meter dash. Junior Shane Stein finished eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.22.

On the women's side, Kendra Averesch led the way in field events with a fifth place finish in the shot put with a toss of 43-07.00.

In the high jump, freshman Lydia Guagenti placed sixth (5-04.25) and sophomore Pam Showman placed seventh (5-02.25), while Taylor Ackerman finished 10th in the long jump with a distance of 16-03.75.

Jhazmyn Anderson led the way in track events for the Oilers with a fifth place finish in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:40.35, and was part of the 4x400-meter relay team of Ackerman, Guagenti and Showman that placed seventh with a time of 4:07.59.

The men and women's track and field teams will return for their next event in 2013 when the travel to Kent State University for the Doug Raymond Invitational.
