Oilers Complete Northwest Ohio Invite

The University of Findlay men and women's indoor track and field teams completed the Northwest Ohio Invitational on Friday, Jan. 18 in Findlay, Ohio.

Tim Sanders led the way for the Oilers with a first place, NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.31 in the 60-meter hurdles and a first place finish in the 300-meter dash with a time of 35.81. He was also part of the 4x400-meter relay team of Michael Travis, Kyle Smithey and Joe Sherrieb that took first with a time of 3:28.87. Travis also placed third in the 300-meter dash with a time of 36.01.

In other running events, Jacob Hayes placed first and Justin Eilerman placed third in the mile run with times of 4:24.77 and 4:26.09, respectively. Tim Majoy took second in the 3,000-meter run with time of 8:50.00, while Shane Stein finished fourth in the 500-meter run (1.11.10).

In men's field events, Taylor Miller took second in the shot put with an NCAA provisional qualifying heave of 55-06.25, while Marcus Vicars placed third with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 55-05.75. Vicars also took third in the weight throw (54-08.25), and Miller took fourth (50-05.50).

In other field events, Derek Spindler placed second in the pole vault (14-05.25) while Colin Thomas and Glen Forsythe placed second (46-01.50) and third (44-06.25) in the triple jump. Forsythe also took third in the long jump (21-10.75), in front of Sherrieb who took fourth (20-08.00).

On the women's side, the 4x400-meter relay team of Taylor Ackerman, Lydia Guagenti, Shelby Stump and Maud Sanmiquel placed first with a time of 4:11.05. Individually, Ackerman also took first in the 60-meter dash (8.11), as well as fourth in the 300-meter dash (43.11), while Stump placed first in the 200-meter dash (26.70), and Sanmiquel placed first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.96, followed by Guagenti in second (1:01.25), and Stump in fourth (1:01.44).

Alexa Stults was another standout for the women, placing first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.01, as well as second in the mile run with a time of 5:24.61, while Pam Showman took first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.22.

In women's field events, Jessica Rowland led the way placing first in the weight throw with an NCAA provisional qualifying and school record breaking toss of 66-05.25, as well as second in the shot put with another NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 46-03.50. Kendra Averesch took first in the shot put with an NCAA provisional qualifying heave of 48-00.75, and second in the weight throw (51-03.75).  

Guagenti also took second in the high jump (5-04.25), and Sanmiquel placed third in the long jump (16-07.75).

The Oilers will be back in action next Friday for day one of the Findlay Classic in the Malcolm Athletic Center in Findlay, Ohio.
