Oilers Complete Day One Of GLIAC Championship

The University of Findlay men and women's indoor track and field teams completed day one of the GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday, Feb. 23 in Allendale, Mich.

On the men's side, the distance medley team of Jacob Hayes, Kyle Smithey, Dillon Webster and Justin Eilerman finished fourth with a school record setting, NCAA provisional qualifying time of 10:05.80.

In other track events, Tim Majoy took fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:57.97, while Tim Sanders to fourth in the 60-meter hurdles prelims with a time of 8.12. He will compete in the finals tomorrow.

In men's field events, Darren Johnson qualified for the long jump finals tomorrow with a third place prelims jump of 22'06.25. He also took eighth in the high jump with a leap of 6'05.00.

As a team, the men currently sit in sixth place with 16.50 total points while Grand Valley State University holds the lead with 66 total points.

On the women's side, Pam Showman placed second in the pentathlon setting a new school record with an NCAA provisional qualifying score of 3,562. Lydia Guagenti and Maud Sanmiquel took fourth and sixth in the same event with 3,260 and 3,209 points, respectively.

In field events, Jessica Rowland qualified to compete in the weight throw finals tomorrow with a second place toss of 66'11.25 in the prelims.

As a team, the women currently sit in third place with 27 total points while Grand Valley State is holding the first place lead with 53.30 points.

The GLIAC Championship will conclude tomorrow.
