Oilers Send 12 to National Championship

The University of Findlay men's and women's indoor track and field teams will be sending 12 athletes to the 2013 NCAA Division II National Championship, which is scheduled to take place on March 7-9 in Birmingham, Ala.

The men's team will send nine athletes to compete in five events while the women will send three and compete in three events.

Senior Tim Sanders, an All-American last year during the indoor season, will compete in the 60-meter hurdles and 4x400-meter relay.  He will be joined on the 4x400 with sophomore Dillon Webster, also an All-American last year, who will also compete in the 800-meter run.

Webster, who owns the school record in the 800 at 1:50.36, and Sanders will also be accompanied by sophomore Michael Travis and freshman Darren Johnson on the Oilers relay team with freshman Kyle Smithey serving as the alternate.

Three Findlay athletes will take part in the shot put as senior Darren Bass and juniors Taylor Miller and Marcus Vicars are all scheduled to compete in the event.

Miller earned All-American honors in the shot put last year during the outdoor season.

In addition, sophomore Corey Shank will compete for Findlay in the pole vault.

Senior Jessica Rowland will lead the women's team as she is scheduled to compete in both the shot put and weight throw.

Rowland, an All-American in both events last season, holds the indoor school record for both events.  Her school record in the shot put is 50'00.00 and her school record in the weight throw is 68'11.75.

Sophomore Kendra Averesch will also compete in the shot put for the Oilers while sophomore Pam Showman will take part in the pentathlon.

Showman broke her own school record in the event at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship with 3,562 points.
