Vicars Named National Athlete of the Week

Senior Derrick Vicars of the Oilers track team was named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Athlete of the Week on March 18.

Vicars had an outstanding meet at the Wake Forest Open on March 15-16 with two first place finishes and one second place finish.

Vicars won the hammer throw with a provisional toss of 194'07, which is also the top mark in the nation at the NCAA Division II level this season.  He then added a first place finish in the discus with a NCAA provisional and school record breaking heave of 181'07, also the top mark in the nation.

His second place finish came in the shot put as he posted a NCAA automatic qualifying toss of 62'01.
