Oilers Complete Day Of Split Meet Action

The University of Findlay men and women's track and field team completed in the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, as well as the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa  on Friday, April 26.

At the Penn Relays, the men's 4x400-meter relay team of John Guagenti, Tim Sanders, Dillon Webster and Darren Bass took 16th in the prelims with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:10.56. Guagenti, Sanders and Johnson also teamed up with Michael Travis to take 27th in the 4x200-meter relay prelims with a time of 1:28.58.

In the sprint medley championship, the team of Kyle Smithey, Joe Sherrieb, Travis and Webster took 31st with a time of 3:34.15.

Individually, Sanders took 11th overall in the 400-meter hurdles with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 52.80, while Glen Forsythe finished 15th in the long jump with a mark of 21'03.50.

The women's sprint medley team of Kirsten Gaerke, Maud Sanmiquel, Shelby Stump and Christine Zimmermann finished 20th with a time of 4:03.92 to round out the day for the Oilers at the Penn Relays.

The Findlay throwers were in full force at the Kap Janvrin Open.

Derrick Vicars placed first in the men's hammer throw with an NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 61.16m, while Marcus Vicars took fourth in the same event with a toss of 52.39m.

Vicars also placed second in the discus with an NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 53.94m. Marcus Vicars (46.80), Darren Bass (45.82) and Taylor Miller (45.60), finished sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.

For the women, Jessica Rowland took second in the hammer throw with an NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 54.72m, while Kendra Averesch finished seventh with a mark of 48.96m. Rowland also finished fourth in the discus with an NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 45.89m.

The Penn Relays will conclude tomorrow.
