Vicars Named Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year

Senior Derrick Vicars was named the 2013 NCAA Division II Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday, May 20.

Vicars, who received the same honor last year and was voted the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Field Athlete of the Year, enters the NCAA Division II National Championship as a top-five seed in three events (shot put, discus and hammer).  He leads the division in the shot put (19.62m), which also ranks in the top-three among all collegiate divisions this year.

The Genoa, Ohio native won a national title last year during the outdoor season in the shot put and was also crowned a national champion in the discus during the 2010 outdoor campaign.
