Vicars, Rowland Named Male and Female Athletes of the Year

The University of Findlay athletic department announced their 2012-13 Male and Female Athletes of the Year on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

Both winners came from the Oilers track and field teams as Derrick Vicars won the male award and Jessica Rowland took home the female award.

Vicars was named the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year as a senior last season and was also voted the GLIAC Field Athlete of the Year.  He also competed in the World University Games in Russia over the summer.

Rowland was a national champion in the hammer throw during the outdoor campaign and finished as the runner-up in the weight throw during the indoor season for the Oilers last year.  She won a GLIAC title in the javelin and is the top thrower in the history of NCAA Division II in the hammer throw with a mark of 64.88 meters.
