Welch Named GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week

UF junior Justin Welch was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for the third time this season on April 23.

Welch had an outstanding meet at the Jesse Owens Track Classic over the weekend by taking third place in both the hammer throw and discus.

Welch took third in the hammer throw with a toss of 233'07, which is the longest heave in NCAA Division II history.  The NCAA automatic qualifying throw was also good enough to set a new school record and is the fourth longest throw in the nation this season across all NCAA divisions.

The Luckey, Ohio native also reached provisional qualifying status in the discus by finishing third with a throw of 170'06.
