Welch Named National Athlete of the Week

UF junior Justin Welch was named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Athlete of the Week on May 12.

Welch earned the award by taking first place in the hammer throw at the Toledo Invitational on May 9.  His school record breaking toss of 72.93 meters is the second longest throw in the nation across all divisions this season.  It was also the second furthest throw in the history of NCAA DII track and field.

The junior also took second in the discus throw at 50.29 meters.

The Luckey, Ohio native also earned national athlete of the week honors from the USTFCCCA on March 31.
