Oilers Sweep Storm

The University of Findlay softball team swept Lake Erie College on Saturday, April 9 in Painesville, Ohio to give them a 16-11-1 record on the season with a 4-8 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers won the first game by a score of 4-3 in nine innings as Kara Hochevar smacked a two-run homer in the top of the frame to give the Oilers the win.

Hochevar finished 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs-batted-in and a run scored while Jaci Messmer, Brittany Dauterman and Courtney Dwyer each had two hits apiece in the victory.

Alyssa Shultz picked up the win in relief, allowing one run on two hits in 2.2 innings of work.

Jackie Messersmith started the contest and allowed two runs on three hits in 6.1 innings.

Findlay won the second game 9-1 behind a stellar pitching performance from Tawna Whited, who allowed only one run on three hits in five innings of work.

Messmer finished the game by going 3-for-4 with three runs-batted-in and two runs scored while Jenna Motuza went 3-for-3 with two RBI's and a run scored.

The Oilers will face the Storm again tomorrow in a twin bill beginning at noon.
