Oilers Split With Wayne State

The University of Findlay softball team split a doubleheader with Wayne State University on Tuesday, April 26 in Detroit, Michigan. The Oilers won the first game 2-1 in eight innings and then lost 11-0 in the second contest to give them a 20-20-1 record on the season with an 8-17 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Tied 1-1 after seven innings in the first contest, Jenna Motuza led off the top of the eighth with a single to left. After advancing on a sacrifice bunt, Brittany Dauterman doubled her home for a 2-1. Julia Stalder then closed the door on the Warriors in the bottom half of the inning to give Findlay the win.

Stalder pitched all eight innings and picked up the victory after allowing one run on eight hits.

Calli Coppus went 2-for-3 at the plate while Jaci Messmer finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.

In the second game, the Oilers managed only two hits on offense while the Warriors racked up 14 in five innings.

Lauren Orban took the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings of work.

Coppus and Tori Allen each singled for Findlay.

The Oilers will be back in action again tomorrow when they face Tiffin University in a twin bill beginning at 3 pm in Tiffin, Ohio.
