Whited Wins Twice In Sweep of Chargers

The University of Findlay women's softball team traveled to Bluffton, Ohio for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader against Hillsdale College on Saturday, March 22.  The first game was a nail biter as the Oilers defeated the Chargers 4-3 while the Oilers thumped the Chargers in the second game by a score of 9-1. The Oilers sweep of the Chargers gives them an 8-3 record on the season. 

In the first game, Tawna Whited picked up the victory on the mound by striking out six batters in seven innings. 

Tori Allen had a big game at the plate finishing with a home run, three runs scored and a RBI. 

Emily Reynolds added an RBI double in the contest while Megan Turner added an RBI on a sacrifice fly. 

In the second game, the Oilers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Emily Stewart hit a three-run home run.  Stewart finished the game with four RBI. 

The scoring spree continued for the Oilers in the second inning when Courtney Dwyer had an RBI double while Jackie Messersmith, Emily Reynolds, Emily Stewart and Abby Funk all contributed with RBI singles. 

Katie Dunphy concluded the offensive assault with a solo home run in the sixth inning.   

Tawna Whited picked up her seventh victory on the season, giving up just three hits in five innings. 

The Oilers return to the field on Tuesday, March 25 when they face Cedarville University for a doubleheader in Cedarville, Ohio.
