Oilers Split Doubleheader Against Michigan Dearborn

The University of Findlay softball team split a doubleheader against Michigan Dearborn at Anderson Field on Monday, April 21.  The Oilers lost the first game in extra innings 8-4 and walloped the Wolverines in the second game 12-4. 

In the first game, Nicole Motuza picked up the loss on the mound, giving three runs in 5.2 innings. 

The game was tied at four through eight innings, but the Wolverines bats were strong in the ninth inning and the Oilers didn't have an answer. 

Lauren Trumpler led the offense for the Oilers, finishing the game with two hits and three runs batted in.  Courtney Dwyer finished the game with three walks and one run scored while Brooke Scherger finished with two walks and two runs scored. 

Jackie Messersmith and Emily Stewart each had one hit while Tori Allen added one run scored in the contest. 

In the second game, Jenna Inman picked up the victory on the mound by striking out six hitters in six innings. 

The Wolverines took a 4-0 lead through two innings, but the Oilers bounced back in the bottom of the second when Amanda Badertscher smashed a three run homerun. 

The Oilers scoring spree continued when Katie Dunphy knocked a two RBI single in the bottom of the third.  Megan Turner added to the offensive assault when she knocked in an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth.  Turner finished the game with four hits and three runs batted in. 

Allyssa Kashat added to the scoring spree with a two RBI double while Jackie Messersmith had an RBI triple and two runs scored.  Tori Allen contributed a single and one run scored in the contest. 

Kari Sparling continued the scoring onslaught with one hit, one RBI and two runs scored.

The Oilers, who are now 19-14 on the season with a 10-10 mark in GLIAC play, will travel to Ashland, Ohio to face GLIAC rival Ashland University in a two-game set on Wednesday, April 23 beginning at 4 p.m.
