Oilers Lose Doubleheader Against Grand Valley State

The University of Findlay softball team lost a doubleheader against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) rival Grand Valley State University on Saturday, April 26 at Anderson Field.  The Oilers lost the first game 9-4 in extra innings and fell to the Lakers in the second game 8-3. 

In the first game, Tawna Whited picked up the loss on the mound, giving up nine runs and striking out seven hitters in eight innings.  Whited contributed a double and one run scored on the offensive end. 

The game was tied at 3 through seven innings.  The Lakers had a big eighth inning scoring six runs and the Oilers had no answer as Grand Valley claimed the victory. 

Courtney Dwyer led the offense for the Oilers, finishing the game with two singles, one run scored and one run batted in.  Jackie Messersmith added a single, one run scored and one run batted in while Tori Allen added a single and one RBI in the contest. 

Emily Reynolds finished with a single and one run batted in while Lauren Trumpler contributed a double. 

In the second game, Nicole Motuza picked up the loss on the mound, giving up five runs and striking out two hitters in four innings. 

The Lakers held a 5-2 lead through five innings and maintained their lead throughout the game as the Oilers were unable to capitalize on their hitting. 

Megan Turner led the offense for the Oilers, finishing the game with a double, a single and two runs batted in.  Morgan Arnold contributed a single and one run batted in while Courtney Dwyer added a double and one run scored. 

Emily Reynolds added a single and one run scored while Abby Funk finished with two singles in the contest. 

The Oilers, who finish the season with a 22-17 record overall and a 13-13 mark in GLIAC play, will participate in the GLIAC tournament as the number 8 seed, which will be hosted by Findlay and begins on Friday, May 2 at Anderson Field.
