Softball Opens Season With Doubleheader Split

The University of Findlay softball opened their regular season with a doubleheader against Wisconsin-Parkside and Lewis University on Friday, February 20 in Rosemont, Illinois.  The Oilers lost their first game 6-2 then won their second game 3-2 to start off their season 1-1. 

In the first game, Junior Bonnie Zappitelli took the loss on the mound.

Junior Brooke Scherger went 2-for-4 while Senior Megan Turner went 2-for-3 with one run scored.  Senior Morgan Arnold went 2-for-3 in the contest. 

In the second game, Freshman Chelsea McManaway claimed the victory on the mound pitching three scoreless innings and collecting four strikeouts in the process. 

The Oilers were down 2-0 heading into the sixth inning then went on to score 2 runs in the sixth to tie up the contest.  The Oilers claimed the victory in the final inning when Freshman Meredith Shepherd singled to right center to bring in Morgan Arnold for the run which led to the victory.  Arnold also contributed a single and a triple in the contest. 

Sophomore Lauren Trumpler contributed one single, a double and one run batted in while Sophomore Kelsey Borders added a single and one run batted in. 

The Oilers return to the field tomorrow for another doubleheader in Rosemont, Illinois as they take on Missouri S&T and Winona State University.  The first game starts at 3:30 p.m. and the second game begins at 8 p.m.
