Oilers Split Doubleheader To Open Florida Trip

The University of Findlay women's softball team split a doubleheader today against Felician College and Rollins College, which took place on Tuesday, March 3 in Clermont, Florida.  The Oilers shellacked Felician College 13-0 and fell to Rollins College 3-2.  The doubleheader split gives the Oilers a 3-4 record on the young season. 

In the first game, Bonnie Zappitelli picked up the victory on the mound for the Oilers allowing just two hits in five innings pitched. 

The Oilers went on a scoring spree in the third inning with sevens run scored and added four more runs in the fourth inning which led to the blowout victory and resulted in the game ending in just five innings due to the 10 run rule. 

Katie Dunphy helped lead the offense hitting a double, two singles and one run batted in while Lauren Trumpler blasted a two-run home run. 

Megan Turner had two singles and two runs batted in while Brooke Scherger added a double, a single and two runs batted in. 

Morgan Arnold finished the game with two singles, two runs scored and one run batted in while Jenna Huff added one single and two runs batted in.  Amanda Badertscher had one single and two runs scored in the contest. 

Abby Funk finished the game with two singles and one run batted in while Allyssa Kashat pinched hit in the game and contributed an RBI single. 

In the second game, Jenna Inman started the game on the mound striking out one with five hits over four innings pitched.  Then, in the fifth inning Chelsea McManaway took the mound and pitched the final three innings striking out five hitters and allowing three earned runs to give her the loss. 

Morgan Arnold led the offense for the Oilers blasting a two-run home run in the second inning.  Katie Dunphy had three singles in the contest while Brooke Scherger added two singles and Kelsey Borders contributed one single and one run scored. 

Today marked the opening doubleheader for the Oilers spring trip in Clermont, Florida.  They have another doubleheader on Wednesday as they face Notre Dame College and Lynn University.
