Oilers Earn a Sweep on Thursday

The University of Findlay softball team won a pair of games on March 5 in Clermont, Fla. to give them a 7-4 record on the season.

The Oilers began the day with an 8-2 win over the University of Sciences and closed the afternoon with a 2-1 victory against Wheeling Jesuit University.

In the win over the Sciences, sophomore Jenna Inman picked up the victory by pitching four innings while junior Bonnie Zappitelli came on in relief to throw the final three frames. Inman struck out one hitter and allowed six hits while Zappitelli allowed one hit and came away with on punch out.

Senior Morgan Arnold blasted a home run to lead the offense while sophomore Katie Dunphy had a double, two singles and two runs batted in.

Senior Emily Stewart, sophomore Lauren Trumpler and freshman Meredith Shepherd each had two singles as well.

In the win over Wheeling, freshman Chelsea McManaway threw a complete game to capture the victory on the mound. She came away with five strikeouts and only allowed two hits in the win.

Sophomore Abby Funk had two doubles and a RBI while sophomore Kelsey Borders and Stewart each had a single

The Oilers will now have an off-day before playing Kutztown and Mary on March 7 in Clermont.
