Oilers Sweep Doubleheader Against Cedarville

The University of Findlay women's softball team swept a doubleheader against Cedarville University, which took place on Tuesday, March 17 in Cedarville, Ohio.  The Oilers won the first game which was a dramatic come from behind victory 6-5 and won the second game avoiding a comeback from Cedarville 5-4 to give them a 10-7 record on the season. 

In the first game, Jenna Inman started the game on the mound for the Oilers and gave up three earned runs and struck out one hitter in four innings.  Chelsea McManaway took over on the mound for the final three innings and gave up no runs and struck out five hitters to earn the victory. 

The Oilers were down 5-0 as they head to the sixth inning.  Then, in the top of the sixth inning, the Oilers bats caught on fire and they went on a scoring spree with 6 runs in the inning to take the lead in the game.  That scoring spree led to the Oilers claiming the victory in the contest. 

Megan Turner had two singles and one run batted in while Morgan Arnold finished the game with one single, one run scored and one run batted in. 

Amanda Badertscher had one single and one run batted in while Hayley Apple came in as a pinch hitter and added one single, one run scored and one run batted in.  Kelly Cejer also pinched hit in the game and had one single and one run batted in.  Lauren Trumpler added one double and one run scored in the contest. 

In the second game, Chelsea McManaway started the game on the mound for the Oilers and allowed three runs and struck out three hitters in 4.1 innings pitched.  Bonnie Zappitelli took over on the mound for the Oilers for the final 2.2 innings and only gave up one run and struck out three hitters to earn the victory. 

The Oilers were up 4-0 going into the fifth inning, but then Cedarville scored 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie up the contest.  The Oilers regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning when Madison Arnold tripled to right center and drove in Katie Dunphy for the run which led to the victory.  Arnold finished the game with two runs batted in while Dunphy added a single and a double. 

Megan Turner added an RBI double and Lauren Trumpler also added an RBI double. 

Hayley Apple had a double and one run scored while Meredith Shepherd added a double and one run scored in the contest. 

The Oilers return to the field on Saturday, March 21 for their home opener in which they face Madonna University in a two-game set slated to begin at 1 p.m.
