Oilers Sweep Doubleheader Against Ohio Dominican

Findlay, OH - The University of Findlay softball team swept a doubleheader matchup against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) rival Ohio Dominican University, which took place on Tuesday, March 31.  The Oilers won the first game 8-3 and won the second game 7-4.  After sweeping the doubleheader the Oilers now have a 12-9 record on the season and this was their first matchup in GLIAC play to give them a 2-0 conference record.    

In the first game, Chelsea McManaway picked up the victory on the mound and claimed her fifth win on the season.  McManaway gave up only four hits and struck out ten hitters in seven innings. 

The Oilers took a 4-0 lead through four innings and the Panthers flirted with a comeback when they scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the Oilers lead to one.  Then, in the bottom of the fifth, the Oilers crushed the Panthers chances of a comeback when they scored four runs to take a commanding 8-3 lead and the Oilers never looked back to claim the victory. 

Megan Turner had a big game at the plate for the Oilers finishing the game with a triple, two singles and two runs batted in.  Emily Stewart also helped lead the offense adding a two RBI double in the contest. 

Meredith Shepherd finished the game with a double, a single, two runs scored and one run batted in while Abby Funk added three singles, two runs scored and one run batted in and Brooke Scherger added an RBI single. 

In the second game, Nicole Motuza picked up the victory on the mound for the Oilers.  She gave up two earned runs and struck out one hitter in 5.2 innings.  Chelsea McManaway came in for the final 1.1 innings of the contest and gave up zero hits and struck out two hitters to earn the save. 

The Oilers took a 3-0 lead through two innings, but then the Panthers scored four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-3 lead.  The Panthers lead was short lived as the Oilers scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning which led to them claiming a 7-4 victory in the doubleheader sweep. 

Megan Turner had another big game at the plate finishing with two doubles, a single and one run batted in.  Abby Funk also helped lead the Oilers offense adding a double, two singles and one run batted in. 

Kelly Cejer had a good game at the dish finishing with two doubles and one run scored while Brooke Scherger added three singles and one run batted in. 

Lauren Trumpler and Emily Stewart each added an RBI in the contest while Katie Dunphy contributed an RBI on a sacrifice fly. 

The Oilers return to the field on Friday, April 3 when they travel to Detroit, Michigan to face GLIAC opponent Wayne State University in a two-game set with the first game slated to begin at 3:30p.m.
