Oilers Split Doubleheader Against Saginaw Valley State

University Center, MI – The University of Findlay softball team traveled to University Center, Michigan to face Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) rival Saginaw Valley State University in a doubleheader, which took place on Saturday, April 4.  The Oilers won the first game 3-0 and lost the second game 4-1.  After the doubleheader split the Oilers have a 13-11 record on the season. 

In the first game, Chelsea McManaway picked up the victory on the mound and claimed her sixth win on the season by allowing just two hits and struck out six batters in the seven inning shutout. 

The Oilers held a 3-0 lead heading to the final inning and stellar pitching throughout the contest was key towards their shutout victory.

Morgan Arnold had a big game at the plate for the Oilers finishing with a round tripper and a single.

Megan Turner had two singles in the game and Lauren Trumpler finished with a double. 

Abby Funk and Kelsey Borders both finished the game with a single. 

In the second game, Nicole Motuza took the loss on the mound for the Oilers giving up seven hits and four runs in five innings.  Bonnie Zappitelli pitched the final two innings of the contest and gave up three hits. 

Saginaw Valley took a 3-0 lead through four innings and unfortunately the Oilers bats couldn't catch on to make a comeback happen. 

Abby Funk finished the game with a single and one run batted in while Jenna Huff added one single and one run scored. 

Brooke Scherger, Megan Turner, Katie Dunphy and Emily Stewart each finished the game with a single. 

The Oilers return to the field on Monday, April 6 when they host Urbana University at Anderson Field in a two-game set with the first game slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
