Oilers Sweep Doubleheader Against Urbana

Findlay, OH - The University of Findlay hosted Urbana University in a doubleheader, which took place at Anderson Field on Monday, April 06.  The Oilers won the first game in dramatic fashion with a 4-3 victory that went eight innings and then won the second game 8-6.  The doubleheader sweep gives the Oilers a 15-11-1 record on the season.   

In the first game, Chelsea McManaway picked up the victory on the mound for the Oilers.  She only gave up four hits and struck out twelve batters in eight innings. 

Urbana held a 2-0 lead through six innings, and then something astonishing happened in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Kelly Cejer stepped up to the plate and knocked a two-run homerun to tie the game.  Then, in the bottom of the eighth inning the magic continued when Morgan Arnold blasted a double to center field that drove in Lauren Trumpler for the game-winning run.

Morgan Arnold finished the game with a double and one run batted in while Hayley Apple added a double.  Emily Stewart and Katie Dunphy both finished the game with a single.    

In the second game, Bonnie Zappitelli started the game on the mound for the Oilers.  She gave up seven hits and four earned runs in 3.1 innings pitched to give her the no-decision.  Nicole Motuza took over on the mound and she pitched the final 3.2 innings allowing only one hit and struck out two batters to earn the win. 

Brooke Scherger helped lead the offense for the oilers finishing the game with a triple, a single and two runs scored.  Katie Dunphy added a two RBI double and Lauren Trumpler finished with three singles and one run batted in. 

Abby Funk finished the game with two singles and one run scored while Emily Stewart added a single, one run scored and one run batted in.  Morgan Arnold added an RBI single.   

The Oilers return to the field on Wednesday, April 8 when they travel to Painesville, Ohio to face Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Lake Erie College in a two-game set with the first game slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
