Oilers Fall to #13 Wayne State

The University of Findlay softball team hosted Wayne State University for a double header on Saturday, April 16th at Anderson Field in Findlay.  The Oilers were swept by the Warriors, as they fell 13-0 in the first game and 3-0 in game two.  The losses move Findlay to 26-14 on the season and to 12-6 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Game 1 (Box Score)

The Warriors shut out the Oilers in the first game.  Findlay could only come up with five hits, while Wayne State had fourteen.

Senior Brooke Scherger singled in the first and the Oilers picked up two more hits in the second with singles by sophomore Kelley Cejer and junior Kelsey Borders.  Junior Lauren Trumpler doubled in the fourth and freshman Rebecca Harvey singled in the fifth.

Wayne State got one run in each of the first two innings to take an early 2-0 lead.  They added six runs in the fourth and capped off the first game scoring with five runs in the fifth for a 13-0 final.

Freshman Hailey Bryan (12-6) took the loss on the hill for Findlay.  She pitched four innings giving up eight runs (six earned) with one strikeout.

Game 2 (Box Score)

The second contest featured a pitcher's duel, as Findlay mustered only two hits and Wayne State recorded five.

The Oilers' hits came from Cejer in the first and junior Katie Dunphy in the second.

Wayne State's first run came in the third inning and they added two more in the fifth on a two run home run to right field for a 3-0 final.

Sophomore Chelsea McManaway (13-4) took the tough loss on the mound for Findlay.  She pitched four and two thirds innings giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits with one walk while striking out five.

The Oilers are back in action for another Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Sunday, April 17th against Saginaw Valley State University in Findlay.  The first game is set to start at 12pm.
