Oilers Finish Regular Season at Ferris State

The University of Findlay softball team finished up their regular season schedule on Sunday, April 24th with a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) double header in Big Rapids, Mich. at Ferris State University.  The Oilers fell 2-1 in the first matchup, and dropped game two 8-0.  The Oilers end the regular season with a 29-19 record and finish GLIAC play at 15-11.

Game 1 L 2-1 (Box Score)

Findlay outhit Ferris state seven to three, but a costly error allowed the Bulldogs to win in walk off fashion.

Sophomore Chelsea McManaway (15-6) took the tough loss on the mound for the Oilers.  She pitched a complete game giving up two runs on three hits with one walk and ten strikeouts.  She now has amassed over 200 strikeouts on the season after today's performance put her season total at 201.

Findlay got in the scoring column in the top of the first thanks to a sacrifice fly by sophomore Amanda Delmonte.  Junior Katie Dunphy led off the inning with a double and senior Brooke Scherger singled.

Ferris State tied the game in the bottom of the second with a solo shot to center field.

Dunphy and Scherger again would record hits in the third, but the Oilers were unable to capitalize.

Ferris scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh due to an error by the Oilers' defense to win 2-1.

At the plate, Dunphy went 3-for-3 with two doubles and Scherger finished the game 2-for-3 to led Findlay.

In the second matchup of the day, the Oilers struggled at the plate only registering four hits, while the Bulldogs compiled ten.

Ferris State got five early runs in the first inning and never looked back.

The Oilers threatened to cut the lead in the bottom of the first.  They got bases loaded with a walk, single by Scherger, and a fielder's choice.  The runners were left stranded as consecutive strikeouts ended the inning.

The Bulldogs added two runs in the second and scored one run in the third for an 8-0 final score.

Findlay put pressure on Ferris State in the bottom of the fifth by getting bases loaded with only one out, but the Bulldogs prevailed without allowing a run.

Delmonte led the Oilers at the plate in the second game, as she finished the game 2-for-3.

Junior Jenna Inman (2-4) recorded the loss for Findlay.  She gave up five runs on four hits and walked one batter.

Next Up

The Oilers have clinched a spot in the GLIAC Tournament, but the seeding is still yet to be determined.  The GLIAC Tournament takes place on Friday, April 29th and runs through Sunday, May 1st at the Marathon Diamonds in Findlay, Ohio.
