Oilers Seeded 7th in GLIAC Tourney

The University of Findlay softball team has earned the seventh-seed in the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament and will play second-seeded Grand Valley State University in the first round on April 29 at 12 p.m. The Oilers will host the tournament, which will run from April 29 until May 1, at the Marathon Diamonds.

The Oilers, who are one of only four teams in the league to qualify for the tournament in each of the past five seasons, ended the regular season with a 29-19 record. They posted a 15-11 record in GLIAC games and have sported an 11-5 record during home contests during the 2016 campaign.

Sophomore Chelsea McManaway has had a dominating season and sports a 15-6 record on the mound to go along with four saves. She has a 0.76 earned run average and has recorded a school record and GLIAC-best 201 strikeouts in only 129.2 innings pitched this year.

Offensively, junior Lauren Trumpler has hit .338 with four home runs, 12 doubles and 36 runs batted in. Senior Brooke Scherger has also been a steady force, hitting .336 with 30 runs and 16 stolen bases.

Grand Valley State meanwhile has a 36-8 record on the year. They have been led by junior Ellie Balbach, who is hitting .369 with four home runs and 33 runs batted in. Senior McKenzie Supernaw is also having a great season and sports a .306 batting average with seven home runs and 35 runs batted in.
