McManaway Named GLIAC Pitcher of the Year

Findlay, OH - Sophomore Chelsea McManaway was named the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Pitcher of the Year as the conference office unveiled their annual postseason awards on April 29 in Findlay, Ohio.

McManaway, who was also a first team all-league selection, has produced a 15-6 record on the mound this season with a school record four saves. She ranks second in the GLIAC and fifth nationally with an earned run average of 0.76 and leads the league in strikeouts with 201, which is also a school record. Her 10.9 strikeouts per game is the fourth-best average in NCAA Division II while her average of only 3.29 hits allowed per game ranks fourth nationally as well.

The Wellston, Ohio native, who was a second team all-conference pick last year, threw a perfect game in Findlay's 1-0 win over Saginaw Valley State on April 17. She struck out 18 hitters in the game. McManaway also threw a no-hitter in an 8-0 win over Northwood on March 25 and was rewarded for her efforts by being named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) National Player of the Week (3/30).

During her brief career with the Oilers, McManway has recorded a 30-13 mark on the mound with a school record six saves. She has also struck out a school record 378 batters and has a 1.79 career earned run average, which is the third-lowest in program history.

In addition, junior first baseman Lauren Trumpler and senior outfielder Brooke Scherger were named honorable mention all-conference.

Trumpler has hit .338 on the year with a team-high four home runs and 36 runs batted in, which is the third-best total in school history. She was named second team all-conference last season.

Scherger is hitting .336 with a team-high 30 runs scored. She has also stolen a team-high 16 bases and clubbed a team-best six triples on the year.
