Oilers Fall to WSU/In 1-1 Tie with Ashland

The University of Findlay softball team is still alive in the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament and will play on Sunday for the first time ever. The Oilers opened the day with a 3-0 loss to top-seeded Wayne State University and are currently in a 1-1 tie entering the eighth inning against Ashland, which will resume tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. after rain washed out the game on Saturday.

Wayne State – Findlay Box Score (L 3-0)

The Oilers opened the day in the semifinals and fell to the Warriors. Wayne State's Lyndsay Butler, the GLIAC Player of the Year, fired a no-hitter against the Oilers to propel them into the championship game. She also went 1-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs.

Sophomore Chelsea McManaway, the GLIAC Pitcher of the Year, took the loss for Findlay after allowing one run on four hits in three innings of work.

Findlay – Ashland Box Score (1-1 – Postponed)

In the consolation final, Findlay and Ashland were competing for the right to face the Warriors in the championship game. The contest remained scoreless through three innings of light drizzle before junior Kelsey Borders singled to center to bring home sophomore Lauren Yacks, who pinch ran for junior Lauren Trumpler earlier in the inning.

McManaway held the Eagles in check until the bottom of the seventh when Ashland tied the game at 1-1. The sophomore hurler gave up a single to start the inning before registering two foul outs. She then gave up a double to center that scored the tying run before striking out the final batter. The game was then postponed until Sunday because of steady rainfall.

Ashland and Findlay will resume their 1-1 game in the top of the eighth inning tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. on Anderson Field.
