Oilers Fall Short in GLIAC Tournament

The University of Findlay softball team's season ended on Sunday, May 1st after they fell to Ashland University 4-1 in 12 innings in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament.  The Oilers lost in the consolation game in the loser's bracket and were one win away from reaching the GLIAC Championship game.  The Oilers end the year at 31-21.

The Oilers got on the scoreboard first with a run in the fourth inning by a RBI single by junior Kelsey Borders to score sophomore Lauren Yacks, who pinch ran for junior Lauren Trumpler after she walked.

Ashland tied the ballgame in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI double with two outs to force extras.

The Eagles scored the final runs in the bottom of the twelfth on a walk-off three run homerun.

The Oilers were outhit during the game, as they recorded four hits compared to nine for Ashland.

At the plate, Findlay was led by Trumpler, who finished 1-for-3 with two walks and sophomore Kelley Cejer ended the game 1-for-2 with a walk.

Sophomore Chelsea McManaway (16-8) took the tough loss on the mound for the Oilers.  She pitched a complete game, giving up four runs (three earned), on nine hits with four walks while striking out eight.  She ended the season with 219 strikeouts, which led the GLIAC and set a single season record for Findlay.
