Oilers Fall in Florida

The University of Findlay softball team fell to 4-6 on the season after suffering two losses on their first day of play in Clermont, Florida on Monday, March 6 during their spring break trip.

Game 1 (L 7-4)

In the first game against West Virginia Wesleyan, the Bobcats used a four run third inning to claim a 7-4 victory over the Oilers.

West Virginia Wesleyan scored the first six runs of the game before Findlay could get on the scoreboard in the fifth inning. Junior Destinie Keeton provided a spark with a solo home run (her second of the season) to trail 6-1.

In the top of the seventh, the Bobcats tacked on another run for a 7-1 lead. The Oilers fought back in the bottom of the inning, but their comeback fell short. Consecutive walks to start the inning allowed junior Amanda Delmonte to connect on a RBI single. Senior Lauren Trumpler followed up with another RBI single and Keeton scored on a passed ball for the 7-4 final.

Sophomore Hailey Bryan (2-4) picked up the loss on the mound for Findlay. She pitched three innings giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits with two strikeouts. Freshman Evyn Kachenmeister came in relief to pitch the remaining four innings giving up two runs on five hits.

Keeton led the Oilers at the plate going 2-for-3 and scored two runs, while Trumpler also finished 2-for-3.

Game 2 (L 6-2)

The Oilers dropped the second game to Wayne State College (Neb.) by a final score of 6-2. The box score could not be provided at this time.

Findlay returns to action on Tuesday, March 7 with another pair of games. The first game is slated for 3:30 p.m. with Saint Leo and the second game is set for a 6:00 p.m. start.
