Findlay Ends Spring Break Trip with Losses

The University of Findlay softball team finished up play during their spring break trip on Saturday, March 11 in Clermont, Florida with a pair of losses to move their record to 8-10 on the season.

Game 1 (L 11-4)

The Oilers fell in the first game 11-4 to Drury University. The box score could not be provided at this time.

Game 2 Box Score (L 4-2)

In the second game of the day, the University of Illinois-Springfield defeated Findlay 4-2. The Prairie Stars used a two run seventh inning to come out on top.

It was tough going for both teams as the first run wasn't scored until the fourth inning. Ill.-Springfield scored in the top of the fourth and the Oilers answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Sophomore Breanna Cleland roped a single through the left side and later scored on a double by freshman Evyn Kachenmeister to tie it at 1-1.

In the top of the sixth, the Prairie Stars regained the lead on a solo home run, but Findlay was again able to answer in the bottom portion of the inning. With two outs, juniors Cassidy Ghesquiere and Kelley Cejer each drew walks. Fellow junior classmate Madison Arnold delivered with a RBI single for a 2-2 score.

In the top of the seventh Ill.-Springfield retook the lead on a two RBI single by Morgan Edwards for a 4-2 final.

Senior Lauren Trumpler and Arnold both had two hits in the game for Findlay. The Oilers recorded 10 hits and two errors, while the Prairie Stars also had 10 hits and committed no errors.

Sophomore Hailey Bryan was on the mound for the Oilers and picked up the loss. She pitched a complete game giving up four runs on ten hits with a career-high six strikeouts.

The Oilers next contest will be a doubleheader at Cedarville University on Wednesday, March 15 with the first game set to start at 3 p.m.
