Oilers Move to 11-12

The University of Findlay softball team traveled to Adrian, Mich. on Tuesday, March 28 for a doubleheader against Siena Heights University. The Oilers fell in the first game, but were able to defeat the Saints in the second game to move their record to 12-12 on the season.

Game 1 Box Score (L 5-1)

A four run fifth inning lifted Siena Heights to a 5-1 victory in the first game of the evening. The lone run for the Oilers came off a solo home run in the second inning by junior Madison Arnold (her 9th of the season and she now sits at second most in a season at UF) for an early 1-0 lead.

A costly miscue by the Oilers in the bottom of the fourth allowed to Saints to tie that game at 1-1.

In the fifth inning, Siena Heights would take control of the game with four runs coming off three hits and another error by Findlay for the eventual 5-1 final score.

Senior Jenna Inman (4-3) picked up the loss for the Oilers on the mound. She pitched 4.2 innings, giving up five runs, three earned, on seven hits. Junior Morgan James pitched the remainder of the game giving up no runs or hits.

The Oilers were only able to come up with five hits, while committing three errors. The Saints connected on seven hits, while committing two errors.

Junior Destinie Keeton, junior Kelley Cejer, sophomore Salwa Al-Hajabed, senior Jenna Huff and Arnold all picked up hits in the game for Findlay.

Game 2 Box Score (W 7-5)

The second game was ruled a no contest, after an error was made by the umpires in the first inning. The Saints jumped out to an early lead, but a three run seventh inning propelled the Oilers to victory.

In the bottom of the first, an error by the Oilers led to three runs to scoring and gave Siena Heights a 3-0 lead. They tacked on two more runs in the second inning to extend their lead to 5-0.

Findlay was able to trim the lead in the top of the third on a RBI single by senior Lauren Trumpler for a 5-1 deficit. Freshman Madison Mollette also singled in the inning.

In the top of the fifth, junior Cassidy Ghesquiere walked and was replaced by sophomore Erika Farst. Back-to-back singles by Cejer and Trumpler allowed Farst to score and Arnold followed up with a two RBI triple to trail 5-4.

With two runners on in the top of the seventh, Keeton delivered with a two RBI double for Findlay's first lead of the ball game. Junior Meredith Shepherd provided an insurance run as she connected on a RBI single for a 7-5 final.

Sophomore Hailey Bryan (7-6) pitched a complete game for Findlay. She gave up five runs, four earned, on nine hits with one strikeout.

At the plate both teams registered nine hits. The Oilers were led by Trumpler and Arnold, each had two hits in the game.

The Oilers return to Anderson Field in Findlay on Saturday, April 1 for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader with the Storm of Lake Erie College. The first game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
