Oilers Move to 5-1 in the GLIAC | Sweep Walsh

The University of Findlay softball team hosted the Cavaliers of Walsh University on Sunday, April 2 for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader. The Oilers swept the Cavaliers in the two game series to move to 15-12 on the season and 5-1 in GLIAC play.

Game 1 Box Score (W 3-1)

A walk off home run in extra innings propelled the Oilers to victory in the first game.

Hits were hard to come by early in the game and the first run wasn't scored until the fourth inning. Walsh took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a RBI single. The lead didn't last long as Findlay was able to answer in the bottom half of the inning.

Junior Madison Arnold led off with a double and sophomore Salwa Al-Hajabed drew a walk. Junior Amanda Delmonte loaded the bases with a single and an Arnold scored on a RBI walk by sophomore Meredith Shepherd for a 1-1 tie.

In the bottom of the eighth, Arnold led off with a single and Al-Hajabed connected on a walk off two run homerun (1st of the season) for a 3-1 final.

The Oilers recorded seven hits and committed no errors, while the Cavaliers had five hits and committed two miscues.

Senior Jenna Inman (5-3) earned the victory on the hill for Findlay. She pitched a complete game giving up one run on five hits with four strikeouts.

Arnold finished the game with two hits and two walks and scored two runs. Al-Hajabed went 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and two RBIs.

Game 2 Box Score (W 7-2)

Findlay used a six run sixth inning to defeat Walsh in the second game of the day.

The Oilers opened up the scoring in the top of the third with an RBI single by Arnold to score junior Kelley Cejer, who also singled in the inning.

The Cavaliers were able to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth as a fielder's choice allowed one run to score and a throwing error put Walsh ahead 2-1.

Findlay was able to score six runs on four hits and one error in the top of the sixth. Al-Hajabed drew a walk to begin the inning and was replaced by freshman Madison Mollette. After Mollette stole second, she was able to score on a single by Delmonte. Shepherd followed up with a RBI single and she scored on a groundout by junior Cassidy Ghesquire.

Arnold brought two more runs across the plate with a double after an error, single by junior Destinie Keeton and senior Lauren Trumpler drew a walk. Al-Hajabed drew another walk in the inning and Delmonte brought in the final run of the inning on a walk for a 7-2 final score.

The Oilers finished the game with eight hits and committed two errors, while Walsh ended the game with five hits and one error.

Sophomore Hailey Bryan (8-6) picked up the victory in circle for Findlay. She pitched six innings giving up two runs, none earned, on four hits with three strikeouts.

Arnold finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs, Delmonte went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Shepherd ended up 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Findlay returns to the playing field on Wednesday, April 5 when they will host the Warriors of Wayne State University for a GLIAC.
