Oilers Split at Tiffin | Earn Berth in GLIAC Tournament

The University of Findlay softball team traveled to Tiffin University on Friday, April 28 for their final games of the 2017 season. The Oilers split the two game series with the Dragons to improve to 20-23 on the season and 10-12 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

It was a pitcher's duel in the first game as the Oilers only picked up three hits, while Tiffin recorded six. Findlay registered two errors, while the Dragons committed one.

The lone run in the game came in the bottom of the fourth for the Dragons for the 1-0 victory.

Junior Destinie Keeton, senior Lauren Trumpler and senior Jenna Huff each had one hit for Findlay.

Senior Jenna Inman (6-8) picked up the tough loss for the Oilers. She pitched a complete game giving up one run, unearned, with a walk and one strikeout.

The Oilers victory came in walk-off fashion. Findlay was held scoreless heading into the bottom of the seventh until the bats came alive as they scored six runs on five hits.

Tiffin held a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, scoring one run in the first inning and one in the third.

Huff got things going with a single to center field and sophomore Salwa Al-Hajabed also singled. Junior Meredith Shepherd brought one runner across the plate with another single. Trumpler then loaded the bases with a single of her own. The tying run came on a RBI walk by junior Madison Arnold.

With two outs and bases loaded, Keeton delivered with a walk-off grand slam to deep center field for a 6-2 victory.

Sophomore Hailey Bryan (12-11) earned the victory in the circle. She pitched a complete game giving up two runs on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Delmonte finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate while Keeton ended the game 1-for-3 with four RBIs.

With the win in the second game, the Oilers secured a spot in the GLIAC Tournament, which begins Friday, May 5 at the Marathon Diamonds in Findlay, Ohio. The Oilers are the 8th seed and will play against Grand Valley State University, who earned the #1 seed.
