Oilers Sweep Davenport

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay softball team swept a double header with Davenport University on Friday, March 16 at Anderson Field. The win boosts the Oilers to a 9-12 overall record on the year.

Game 1 | W 5-0 (Box Score)

Findlay went up early in game 1 after shutting down the Panthers in the top of the inning.

Meredith Shepherd began the inning by reaching first and advancing to second on an error.

Allison Brunner was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat. Brunner advanced to second and Shepherd to third on an Amanda Delmonte fly-ball, putting both runners in scoring position.

Salwa Al-Hajabed hit a hard groundball on the next at-bat, which was received by the shortstop and launched over the head of the first baseman. This error scored Shepherd from third and Brunner from second, giving the Oilers the early 2-0 lead.

Findlay added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Brunner launched a single down the left field line to leadoff, which was followed by an RBI double from Delmonte.

Dellmonte advanced to third on a throwing error from the catcher, and was scored two batters later when Al-Hajabed sent a fly ball to right field that was mishandled by the fielder.

The Oilers scored their fifth and final run of the game in the fourth inning by way of a solo homerun from Destinie Keeton.

Megan Fisher was the winning pitcher for Findlay, going all seven innings while recording a season-high nine strikeouts and allowing zero runs.

Game 2 | 5-2 (Box Score)

The Oilers had to right back in the second game, giving up two runs in the top of the first inning on a two-run double to left field.

The contest would go for three more non-scoring innings until Findlay's bats came alive in the bottom of the fourth.

Allison Brunner led off the fourth with a single to left, and advanced to second on the next at-bat on a single from Amanda Delmonte.

Brunner scored during the next at-bat, thanks to a ground ball from Salwa Al-Hajabed. Emily Barr, who pinch ran for Delmonte, advanced to second on the play.

After being moved to third on another ground ball, Barr scored on an error from the left fielder that came from the bat of Destinie Keeton.

The Oilers added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Brooke Otto began the inning with a single, and was moved to second on a SAC bunt from Montana Walker.

Meredith Shepherd followed up with a double down the left field line that scored Otto from second.

Al-Hajabed stepped up two batters later and scored Sheperd from second on a single ripped up the middle of the infield.

Three consecutive pop ups in the top of the seventh ended the game and left the score at the 5-2 final.

The offense didn't stop there, as Findlay added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when pinch hitter Rebecca Harvey smashed a double off the centerfield wall that scored Keeton from second.

Hailey Bryan started on the bump for the Oilers and received the victory. Bryan went 5 innings while allowing two runs (zero earned), recording three strikeouts, and only allowed two hits.

Caragyn Yanek entered the game in the sixth inning and was awarded the save. Yanek allowed zero runs and only one hit in her appearance.

The Oilers will be back on the field when they host Ashland University for a double header this Sunday, March 18. First pitch is set for noon.
