Oilers Sweep on Senior Day
Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay softball team swept a Great Midwest Athletic Conference double-header against Malone University on Saturday, April 21 at Anderson Field. The wins boost the Oilers to a 23-16 (13-1) record while the Malone Pioneers fall to 12-14 (5-11).
Game 1 | W 11 – 3 (Box Score)
The Pioneers got on the board first, but the Oilers offense proved too much for Malone to handle.
Malone scored one run in the top of the second on a solo-homerun with one out to gain the early lead.
Destinie Keeton provided an immediate response in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff homerun over the centerfield fence.
With two outs, Amanda Delmonte singled up the middle and scored Meredith Shepherd from second and Kelley Cejer from third to give the Oilers the 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the third, the Oilers offense manufactured three more runs that was highlighted by a triple from Shepherd.
After giving up two runs in the top of the fourth, Findlay put up four runs of their own to extend their lead to 3-10.
During the inning, Salwa Al-Hajabed roped a double to the right centerfield fence that scored Madison Arnold and pinch runner Rachel Vander Roest.
Freshman Brooke Otto also had an RBI double and Shepherd had an RBI single during the inning.
The game ended on a run-rule in the fifth inning after Keeton sent a ball off the left field wall to score Evyn Kachenmeister and bring the game to the 11-3 final.
Hailey Bryan started and received the victory on the mound, pitching five innings while allowing four hits, three runs (all earned) and one walk and recording two strikeouts.
Game 2 | W 8 – 0 (Box Score)
This game was controlled by the Oilers from the beginning, putting up four runs in the bottom of the first.
Madison Arnold got the scoring going by hitting a 2 RBI triple off the right field fence, forcing a throwing error to third that allowed her to score on the same play.
Destinie Keeton delivered a double to right center that scored Salwa Al-Hajabed to score the fourth run of the inning.
The Oilers continued their offensive momentum in the third, scoring one run on a double from Arnold and a sacrifice fly from Al-Hajabed.
Sadie Gearhart singled to right field in the fifth inning to score Keeton to reach a 7-0 lead going into the sixth.
This game also ended in a run-rule in the bottom of the sixth when Devyn Zuro sent a ball to the center fielder that was dropped to score the final run.
Freshman Caragyn Yanek started and got the win on the rubber, going six innings and allowing zero runs, three hits, and two walks while recording four strikeouts.
The Oilers continue G-MAC play Sunday, April 22 when they travel to Walsh University. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
