Oilers Drop Final Two Games in Florida

Clermont, Fla. – The University of Findlay softball team dropped both games on their final day of competition in the Sunshine State on Saturday, March 9. The Oilers lost to Fairmont State to begin the day and then were defeated by Wayne State to wrap up their trip south. Findlay returns to Ohio with a record of 8-10.

Game 1 vs Fairmont State (L 5-2 | Box Score)

Fairmont State was the first team on the board, scoring single runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings to take a 3-0 advantage.

The bottom of the sixth began with a single by pinch hitter Madelyn Turner and, on a double by Devyn Zuro, the Oilers were finally able to get their first runner to third of the game. A sacrifice fly by Rebecca Harvey cut the score to 3-1 while a single by Amanda Delmonte made it 3-2. A strikeout and a groundout ended the scoring threat.

The Falcons returned the favor with two runs of their own in the top of the seventh and set the Oilers down in the bottom of the inning to end the game.

Findlay scored their two runs on seven hits and made one error while Fairmont St. scored five runs on ten hits and also made one error.

Rebecca Harvey and Amanda Delmonte each had two hits for Findlay.

Hailey Bryan took the loss in the circle to fall to 5-4 on the year. She tossed seven innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on ten hits. She walked two and struck out three.

Game 2 vs Wayne State (L 7-1 | Box Score)

In the second contest, the Warriors of Wayne State scored early and often, plating five runs combined in the first three innings.

Findlay's lone run over that stretch came in the top of the second when, after she led off the inning with a double, Salwa Al-Hajabed came in to score on a single by Lauren Linn.

Wayne State added a pair of runs in the fifth and the Oilers were unable to get another run on the board.

Findlay scored their one run on eight hits and made two errors while the Warriors scored seven runs on seven hits and made one error.

Devyn Zuro and Al-Hajabed each had two hits for Findlay.

Caragyn Yanek fell to 0-4 in the circle after throwing two innings and allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits. She walked one and struck out one.

Findlay will open up play at home on Thursday, March 14 as they host Saginaw Valley State. That double-header will begin at 3:30 pm.
