Swimming Wraps Up Day 2 at GLIAC Championship

The University of Findlay men and women's swimming and diving teams completed day two of the 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship on Feb. 12 in Jenison, Mich. The women's team is currently in fourth place with 188 points while the men's team is in sixth place with 85 points.

On the women's side, junior Jessica Ward paced the squad with her second place finish in the 100-yard butterfly. Ward crossed the line in a school record-breaking time of 56.47, which was also a NCAA "B" cut mark.

Senior Molly Cade (57.12) and junior Kaley Holmstrom (57.03) also achieved "B" cuts in the event and earned seventh and ninth place, respectively.

Freshman Emma Barnes was third in the 400-yard IM with a school record-breaking time of 4:25.42 and she also added a seventh place finish in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:54.84. Her time in the 400 was also good enough for a "B" cut.

Findlay's 400-yard medley relay team also had a great day, finishing third with a "B" cut time of 3:50.07. The team was comprised of Ward, Cade, Holmstrom and Barnes.

The Oilers 200-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Hannah Schreiber, sophomore Marissa McDonald, freshman Michelle Stefaniak and senior Annie Currin teamed to take eighth with a time of 1:40.90 while senior Ashleigh Weddington added an 11th place finish in the 1-meter dive too with a total score of 337.15.

On the men's side, freshman Janko Radmanovic took fifth place in the 100-yard butterfly with a school record-breaking and "B" cut time of 48.85.

The Oilers 400-yard medley relay team of sophomores Clay Fogle, Todo Djurovic, Nick Kaftan and freshman Radmanovic finished sixth with a time of 3:29.77 while their 200-yard freestyle relay squad of sophomores Cody Craig, Ian Kochheiser and Matthew Sheehan teamed with freshman Graham Copus to take seventh at 1:29.89.

Djurovic also scored a seventh place finish in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:05.76. In the preliminary round, he scored a "B" cut in the event after crossing the line in 4:03.12.

The championship will continue tomorrow.
