Oilers Dominate at OWU Tri-Meet

Results

The University of Findlay men's and women's diving teams took to the pool on Saturday, November 7 in Delaware, Ohio for a tri-meet with Bellarmine and host, Ohio Weslyan. By the end of the event, the Oilers found themselves atop both the men's and women's team standings.

Women

Sophomore Emma Barnes was able to hold of the field in the 200 yard freestyle as her time of 1:58.65 was good enough for a first place finish. Barnes collected another first place finish in the 100 yard freestlye where she beat the field with her time of 54.28.

Senior Jessica Ward nabbed a first place finish in the 100 yard backstroke with her time of 58.27 while junior Meri Cizmar came in with a time of 59.89, good enough for second place. Sophomore Taylor Seyfried finished in fourth with a time of 1:04.01.

Senior Kaley Holmstrom earned the Oilers a first place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.51.

In the 200 yard freestyle relay, Findlay's Ward, Barnes, freshman Brittany Borzych, and freshman Jenna Dasher took first place by nearly six seconds with their time of 1:40.53. In third place in that race was the Oilers team comprised of sophomore Alyssa Sauter, freshman Colleen Hoke, junior Marissa McDonald, and freshman Maria Milner (1:50.23).

Findlay freshman Amanda Stiegal finished in a close second in the 50 yard freestyle with her time of 25.58, just eight one-hundreths of a second off the lead. Coming in fourth in that race was junior Hannah Schreiber who clocked a time of 27.31. Steigal also took part in the 500 yard freestyle where she took second place with a 5:28.10.

Freshman Jenna Dasher was able to secure a second place finish in the 100 yard butterfly as she raced to a time of 1:00.56. Schreiber and Stiegal were also active in this race as they took fourth and fifth with times of 1:03.82 and 1:05.20, respectively.

In the 200 yard medley relay, a senior quartet of women teamed up to take second place. Seniors Ward, Kari Lemanski, Holmstrom, and Kacie Miller finished the race in a time of 1:56.99. In the same race, Cizmar, sophomore Rachel Farmer, junior Hannah Schreiber, and Dasher swam to a time of 1:59.78 which was good enough for fourth place. Holmstrom (3rd, 2:15.81), Cizmar (4th, 2:16.11), and Farmer (5th, 2:20.26) were also participants in the 200 yard individual medley.

Sophomore Taylor Seyfried participated in the 1,000 yard freestyle and be race's end had clocked an 11:52.33 and a fourth place finish.

Diving

On the one meter board, a trio of Findlay freshman finished in first, second, and third, as Madison Tanis, Hannah May, and Brittany Borzych finished with a 245.90, 210.95, and 166.60, respectively.

Tanis and May also participated in the three meter board and took first and second with scores of 227.55 and 198.55, respectively.


Men

Senior Diego Santos was able to collect a win for the Oilers in the 200 yard individual medley as he beat the field with his time of 1:59.04. Just two one-hundreths of a second behind was teammate, junior Todo Djurovic, who finished with a 1:59.06. Santos was also a participant in the 100 yard backstroke where his time of 54.42 earned him a second place finish and a B standard time making him eligible for participation in the national championship meet. Freshman Trae Gulgin also participated in the 100 yard backstroke and finished in fourth with a time of 56.13 while sophomore Ross Stransbery took home fifth with a 56.28.

Djurovic earned a first place finish for himself in the 100 yard breaststroke where he beat the field with a time of 57.36 to establish a new Ohio Wesleyan pool record. In fourth place with a time of 1:06.29 was junior Matthew Sheehan. Junior Andrew Rickenbaugh finished in fifth with a 1:10.69.

Sophomore standout Janko Radmanovic took home first place in the 20-lap, 1,000 yard freestyle with a school record-breaking time of 9:37.75. It also set an Ohio Wesleyan pool record. Freshman Alex Matthews took fourth place in that event with his time of 10:26.12. Radmanovic also collected a top time in the 100 yard butterfly as he took first with a time of 50.24. Freshman Conner Whitaker ended that race in third place with a time of 54.38.

Radmanovic, junior Cody Craig, junior Nick Kaftan, and Whitaker took first place in the 200 yard freestyle relay and bested six other teams as they raced to a time of 1:27.59. Finishing in third in that event was the team of junior Clay Fogle, freshman Ben Mayer, freshman Luke Kleman, and Santos. They finished with a time of 1:32.09.

The 200 yard freestyle saw junior Ben Rath finish in second place with a 1:48.45 while his teammate, Kaftan, took fourth place with a time of 1:50.56. Kaftan picked up his own second place finish in the 100 yard freestyle where he finished with a time of 49.69. Rath also participated in the 500 yard freestyle where his time of 4:52.08 was good enough for a third place finish. Freshman Alex Matthews took fourth in that race with a time of 5:05.59.

In the 200 yard medley relay, the Oilers' team of Gulgin, Djurovic, Whitaker, and Craig ended in second place with a time of 1:39.03. Close behind were teammates Stansbery, junior Matthew Sheehan, Fogle, and junior Kaleb Brown who raced to a third place finish with a time of 1:41.14. Craig also participated in the 50 yard freestyle where he finished in third with a time of 22.39. Other Oilers in that race were Mayer, who took fourth with a 22.68, and junior Kaleb Brown, who finished in fifth with a time of 23.01.

Diving

Sophomore Ross Graham finished in first place on the one meter board with his score of 184.90. Graham took first in the three meter board as well as he finished with a score of 163.75.
