Oilers Compete in Day 1 of GLIAC Championship

The University of Findlay men and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the first day of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships on Wednesday, Feb. 10 in Mott, Michigan. During the opening day of competition the Oilers succeeded in reaching numerous NCAA standard qualifying times and breaking several school records.

Women

The 200 yard medley relay team of senior Jessica Ward, senior Kaley Holstrom, Jenna Dasher, and freshman Amanda Stiegal earned a fourth place finish with a 1:45.71 time.  The relay team also earned a NCAA 'B' standard qualifying time from their performance in the event.

Holmstrom set her presence in the pool by winning the 200 yard individual medley preliminaries with a Division II NCAA 'B' standard time of 2:05.98. Holstrom broke her 'B' standard time when she took second place in 200 individual medley finals with a 2:04.64 swim. This final time still places Holstrom with a NCAA 'B' standard qualifying time.

Ward reached a time of 2:05.91 in the 200 yard individual medley finals qualifying for a NCCA 'B' standard time and an award of third place.

Stiegal placed tenth for Findlay in the 50 yard freestyle finals with a time of 24.20.

Women's Diving

Freshman Madison Tanis placed fourteenth with 328.40 in women's 3-meter diving. Diving teammate Hannah May followed in fifteenth place with 308.70 in the event.

Men

The 200 yard medley team of sophomore Ross Standbery, junior Todo Djurovic, freshman Connor Whitaker, and junior Kaleb Brown placed seventh in the event's finals with a time of 1:33.46. 

Djurovic placed tenth in the 200 yard individual medley finals with a time of 1:52.54.

Sophomore Janko Radmanovic swam a NCAA 'B' standard time of 20.85 in the 50 yard freestyle preliminaries earning third place in the event. Radmanovic also placed fourth in the 50 yard freestyle finals with a 'B' standard time of 20.81.

Sophomore Ben Rath broke Findlay's school record for the 1000 yard freestyle with a third place finish in the finals and a NCAA 'B' standard time of 9:31.75.

Currently both men and women are ranked fifth among their competition. The Oilers will return to the GLIAC Championship competition in Mott, Michigan tomorrow at 10am.
