Oilers Earn 5th Place Overall in GLIAC Championships

Results

The University of Findlay men and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the final day of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship competition. Over the stretch of the four day tournament the Oilers were able to set new school records for Findlay as well as reach many NCAA qualifying times.

Women

The 400 freestyle relay team of sophomore Emma Barnes, freshmen Amanda Stiegal and Jenna Dasher, and senior Jessica Ward reached third place in the event, swimming a time of 3:31.96.  The team set the new school record in the event for Findlay and earned a NCAA 'B' standard qualifying time from their performance in the event.

Stiegal continued her competition by earning eighth place in the 100 yard freestyle finals with a time of 53.22.

Junior Meri Cizmar placed third in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.30. Cizmar also gained a NCAA 'B' standard time qualification with this time. Teammates Barnes and Ward also placed in the 200 yard backstroke. Barnes earned fifth place in the event with a time of 2:04.15. Ward placed sixth with a 2:04.19 finish.

Senior Kaley Holstrom reached fifth place in the 200 yard breaststroke with a NCAA 'B' standard time of 2:19.53. Holstrom currently holds the Findlay school record in the event with a time of 2:18.22.

Men

Sophomore Ben Rath placed fifth in the 1650 yard freestyle with a NCAA 'B' standard time of 16:07.31. Rath broke his school record time of 16:08.00 with his performance in the event.

Sophomore Janko Radmanovic swam a NCAA 'B' standard 45.69 time to earn third place in the 100 yard freestyle. Radmanovic currently holds the school record in this event with a time of 45.65.

Freshmen Trae Gulgin and Alex Matthews competed in the 200 yard backstroke.  Gulgin swam a 1:56.09 time to earn twelfth place while teammate Matthews came in thirteenth with a time of 1:56.90 in the event.   

Diving

Graham Rossi placed eighth overall in 3 meter diving with a final score of 339.70.

Both men and women finished the tournament in fifth place.  The women earned a total of 367.5 points while the men totaled 305 points in the competition. The Oiler swimming and diving teams will compete next on Saturday, Feb. 20 at the Ashland University Last Chance Meet.  This competition will begin at 1pm.
