Oilers Split at Ashland
Ashland, OH – The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming teams traveled to Ashland for the second time this season on Saturday, Oct. 22. The women came away with a 134-71 victory while the men fell by a mere three points, 108-105.
Women
The Oilers women took first place in eight events including two of the three relays. One of the team's best performances came in the 100 meter breaststroke where freshman Hanna Cederholm took first place with a 1:06.70, three seconds ahead of the field. Findlay swimmers finished in the next two spots as well with freshman Julia Snell taking second with a 1:09.73 and junior Alyssa Sauter finishing in third with a 1:13.09.
Cederholm won her other individual event, the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:13.67, nearly three seconds ahead of the closest competitor. She was also a member of the 400 yard medley relay team that took first place by 14 seconds. The team was comprised of all freshman including, Cederholm, freshman Kathryn Samuelson, freshman Olivia Wile, and freshman Lauren Blanchard. They won with a time of 4:03.13.
An all-American a season ago, senior Meri Cizmar picked won in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:20.98. She took third in her only other individual event, the 100 yard butterfly.
Sophomore Amanda Stiegal, who qualified for the national championship in multiple events a year ago, was a winner in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.98.
Men
Findlay's men took first place in five of the day's events. They were led by the performance of junior all-American Janko Radmanovic. He swam in three events and took first place in every one. Those events were the 1000 yard freestyle (9:45.19), the 100 yard freestyle (47.31), and the 500 yard freestyle (4:52.08).
Senior Nick Kaftan was a winner for Findlay as he took first place in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.35 and junior Ross Stansbery was the team's final winner as he took first place in the 100 yard backstroke with a 55.15.
The teams will be back in the pool next week, Oct. 29 when they take on Bellarmine in a dual in the first home event of the season.
