Swimmers Complete Day 1 of GLIAC Championship

The University of Findlay men and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up day one of the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship on Feb. 8 in University Center, Mich.

Amanda Stiegal paced the women's team by taking third in the 50-yard freestyle with a NCAA "B" standard time of 23.61. She raced to a time of 23.55 in the prelims of the event and also teamed with Kathryn Samuelson, Meri Cizmar and Hannah Cederholm to take third in the 200-yard medley relay with a "B" time of 1:44.02.

Cizmar added an eighth place finish in the 200-yard IM at 2:08.12 while Cederholm was 11th in the same event with a time of 2:08.68.

Julia Snell took 11th in the 50-yard freestyle with a "B" time of 23.88 while Brittany Menzer was 15th in the 1000-yard freestyle at 10:49.44.

The men's 200-yard medley relay team of Trae Gulgin, Conner Whitaker, Isaac Stretch and Cody Craig placed fifth with a time of 1:34.18 while Gerard Niermann was 16th in the 1000-yard freestyle at 9:50.53.

Todo Djurovic also added an 18th place finish in the 200-yard IM at 1:56.37.

The championship will continue tomorrow.
