Day 2 of GLIAC Championship Concludes

The University of Findlay men and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up the second day of the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship on Feb. 9 in University, Mich. The women's squad is currently in fifth place with 179.5 points while the men are in seventh with 85 points.

Amanda Stiegal once again paced the Oilers with two NCAA "B" standard qualifying times. She teamed with Julia Snell, Kathryn Samuelson and Lauren Blanchard to take third in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a "B" time of 1:35.80. The finish was also good enough to establish a new school record in the event. She also finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a "B" time of 1:53.55, which was just a little over the time of 1:53.21 that she had in the preliminary round.

The Oilers 400-yard medley relay team of Samuelson, Hanna Cederholm, Katy Kouvaris and Blanchard placed fourth with a time of 3:50.80 while Emma Barnes was seventh in the 400-yard IM at 4:30.92. Meri Cizmar took 12th in the same event at 4:35.34 while Rachel Farmer was 18th in the 400-yard IM at 4:48.99.

Kouvaris added a 13th place finish in the 100-yard butterfly at 58.74 while Jenna Dasher (58.90), Cederholm (59.16) and Olivia Wile (59.57) took 15th, 16th and 20th, respectively, in the same event.

In diving competition, Hannah May was 11th in the 1-meter at 125.95.

On the men's side, Trae Gulgin, Todo Djurovic, Tucker Stocker and Nick Kaftan teamed to take sixth in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:29.24 while the Oilers 200-yard freestyle relay team of Conner Whitaker, Isaac Stretch, Cody Craig and Clay Fogle finished seventh at 1:25.71.

Whitaker added a 16th place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (50.98), Kaftan was 17th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.97) and Djurovic was 19th in the 400-yard IM (4:14.40).

The championship event will continue tomorrow.
